Belwin is proud to continue serving the Community and provide the Lucy Winton Bell Athletic Fields as a premier complex for local youth athletics. The Saint Croix Valley Athletic Association (SCVAA) and Saint Croix Soccer Club (SCCS) continue to be our supporting partners and while these clubs have their own specific missions, they still manage to share our facility and we all work together to accommodate and promote youth sports and the outdoors.

The fields survived the drought of summer and then enjoyed an abundance of rain this fall. They remain in excellent condition and we are very fortunate this year to end with approximately 33 inches of rainfall. Overall we hosted 1,500 games of youth baseball, softball, soccer, and football. We also could not help but notice that more guests were taking advantage of the adjacent 1.3 miles of hiking trails than ever before.

Although the 2007 Lucy Winton Bell Athletics Fields Season has officially departed, we gave it a great sendoff. The grand finale was on a beautiful fall day in October when we had a record number of guests attend sporting events. The Karin Housley Show also broadcasted live from the Lucy Winton Bell Athletic Fields on KLBB AM 1200 Radio adding to the excitement of the day.

Besides the daily buzz on the fields, off of them Belwin has been working to strengthen this facility as an outstanding, safe environment for youth athletics. We have been seeking funding from a variety of sources to construct a multi-purpose building adjacent to the fields. This building will have concession areas, first aid facilities, a meeting room and interpretive areas for Belwin’s adjacent property, while in the best Belwin tradition, remain as respectful to the environment as possible. We have already received several generous contributions and commitments to this project from local communities and from Andersen Windows. Belwin will be continuing to seek funding for this project in the coming year.

As always, we are grateful to the many members of the community who give their time, energy and financial support to keep the Lucy Winton Bell Athletic Fields available for local youth athletics. Without the contributions that our volunteers, employees and sponsors in the community make, we simply couldn't accomplish what we do. This year we would especially like to thank: Dorothy Stormont of Stillwater; Tim Drahnak from Lake Elmo; Dave Klinger, owner Afton Tree Works; S & S Tree Specialists; Greg Buehl, owner of Buehl Landscaping; the National Arbor Foundation and of course our high school staff.
