Lucy News
One of the things that has made the Lucy Winton Bell Athletic Fields (LWBAF) such a great place are the volunteers that help us make it that way. This year, we got some help from Matt Doneux — age 17 — a Life Scout working toward his rank of Eagle Scout and member of Boy Scout Troop 125, sponsored by St. Mary's Church in Stillwater.
To achieve Eagle, a Life Scout must complete at least 21 merit badges and complete an Eagle leadership project. This year, Matt worked with his Eagle coach, the district advancement chair and myself to get a rebound wall completed at Lucy.
Rebound walls are used by soccer players to practice kicks and returns. Matt spent several months perfecting a plan to build one at LWBAF. He first had to raise money. Matt sold gift cards, sought individual donations and was awarded a significant contribution from the St. Croix Soccer Club.
The wall was built over two days. Matt directed the efforts of 18-20 scouts, leaders and parents from Troop 125. Together they dug footings, poured concrete, set posts, built and erected the wall that now stands at the north end of Field 21. This project could not happen without the support of Matt’s fellow Scouts, family and members of the community. We at Lucy are thrilled by its addition to our complex and know that it will be used for many years by young athletes from throughout our community. Thank you Matt!
The Lucy Winton Bel Athletic Fields would also like to thank Dorothy Stormont!
Dorothy has worked for the past four years to make the complex a more beautiful place. We thank her for the flowers she has donated and for the time that she has committed. This year she had help from three Saint Croix Soccer Club teams: U15C1 Girls Storm, U15C2 Girls St. Croix United and U19C1 Girls Arsenal. Thank You!"
