Observatory to be Constructed at Belwin Center
The Belwin Conservancy has recently finalized an agreement with the Minnesota Astronomical Society (MAS) to construct a permanent observatory at Belwin. A domed observatory will be constructed near Belwin Center, and will house the largest refracting telescope in Minnesota. This will offer visitors an unparalleled view of our universe. Images from the telescope will be presented on a large-screen television within Belwin Center, so that large groups can experience the heavens in comfort. We know of no other facility in the state that can offer such an opportunity.
The observatory is a perfect compliment to our daytime environmental program. It also enhances a long partnership between Belwin and the MAS, who has used a small portion of our property as an observing location for many years. We look forward to sharing the Belwin Conservancy’s incredible star-filled nights with the Minnesota Astronomical Society and our members.
We are working with MAS to raise the necessary funds to finish construction in early 2009. We need to raise another $35,000 to meet our goal. For more information, on contributing to this project please call Steve Hobbs at 651-436-5189.
