Director's Message
We just finished rounding up the bison herd for their trip back to Wisconsin. It was a pleasure to have the 30 bulls we had this year. Hundreds of people were able to see them wander through the prairie from the observation platform that you, members of the Belwin Conservancy helped build. Thanks to you, we’ve been able to forge a groundbreaking partnership with the family that runs NorthStar Bison and we have been able to bring these magnificent animals back where they belong. The prairie, the bison and everyone here at the Belwin Conservancy thank you for being a partner with us.
Last year, about this time, I asked all of you to help us acquire Father Metcalf’s property because it was a key inholding. As before, you stepped up to the challenge and in just a few months we were able to raise the $650,000 that we needed. Now, we are working with the local art community to turn this breathtaking property into a place for artists to inspire and be inspired. Thank you, again.
Now we have another exciting opportunity before us. An 8-acre property that we have been seeking to acquire for more than 40 years has recently become available. This property sits directly across the prairie from the lookout tower next to the Belwin Center. If it were developed, the tranquil vistas that so many have enjoyed over the years would be spoiled. The escape from the things of man that so many seek when they visit the Belwin Conservancy would be diminished.
We must succeed in buying this important parcel. We need to raise $140,000 before the middle of January. Your partnership is as important as it has ever been.
Please make a contribution towards this important goal today. Thank you in advance for your help. We always know we can count on our friends, the Belwin Conservancy Membership!
