After a year of construction using mostly volunteer labor, the Joseph J. Casby Observatory is now operational and being used to explore the heavens. The Minnesota Astronomical Society (MAS) opened the observatory to their members late this summer and they are extremely pleased with what they’ve seen so far.
The observatory is open to MAS members who have attended orientation sessions both on how to use the sophisticated telescope and on visiting the Belwin Conservancy’s preserve. Belwin Conservancy members are invited to special presentations at which time a member of the MAS will provide a guided journey through the cosmos using the telescope hooked via a live video connection to the education center.
We’re thrilled with how the observatory has turned out and would like to extend our thanks to the MAS volunteers and donors who made the Casby Observatory a reality. We look forward to the many opportunities the observatory will bring for the exploration not just of the world around us but the heavens above.
